An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 10" x 12 3/4" [25 x 32 cm]) (Learn More) Beau Brummel, the 1924 Harry Beaumont silent England historic biographical romantic love triangle melodrama ("A Romance of the Most Fascinating Figure of Fact or Fancy"; set in the early 1800s, loosely based on the life of George Bryon Brummell, who was a soldier with a modest inheritance, but he became the favorite of the Prince of Wales, and he rose in English society; he was famous for his stylish fashion sense and his great wit; but it went to his head, and he gambled himself deep into debt, and he fell out of favor with the prince, and he died in debtor's prison from syphilis!) starring John Barrymore ("America's Most Distinguished Actor"; in the title role as George Bryon 'Beau' Brummel), Mary Astor ("as Lady Margery Alvanev"), Willard Louis ("as The Prince of Wales"), Carmel Myers ("as Lady Hester Stanhope"), Irene Rich ("as The Duchess of York"), and Richard Tucker ("as Lord Stanhope"). Note that Mary Astor was just 18 years old when this movie was made! She had been making movies for two years, and had a major success in this movie opposite John Barrymore (Barrymore had requested her to play the female lead), and the 18 year old Mary had an affair with the 42 year old Barrymore. Her parents broke off the affair with Barrymore and virtually kept her a prisoner in their lavish home. Of course, she went on to be a major star of the 1920s through the 1940s. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: This card has a great image of John Barrymore and 18 year old Mary Astor, and the caption, calling her his "first, last, and only love" is very ironic, because not only did Barrymore seduce her in real life (see above), but, as usual, he soon moved on to other beautiful young women! Also note that this silent lobby card has been trimmed. One would obviously prefer finding an untrimmed example of this card, but one might wait a VERY long time to find that untrimmed example, but bear in mind this significant defect before bidding on this card, which has been trimmed and it now measures 10" x 12 3/4" [25 x 32 cm]. Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. All the blank borders have been trimmed off, and the card was once mounted to a backing board, and it has darkened somewhat. It no longer is attached, and there are glue stains on the back of the card (see our image), but otherwise, the card is in pretty nice condition! Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
