An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Autographed Style B Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) The Gorgeous Hussy, the 1936 Clarence Brown early 19th century historical biographical romantic love triangle melodrama ("The producers of San Francisco present the next giant entertainment"; "From the novel by Samuel Hopkins Adams", who wrote the screenplay for "It Happened One Night"; very loosely based on the life of a famous Washington socialite at the time of Andrew Jackson's presidency) starring Joan Crawford (as Peggy Eaton), Robert Taylor, Lionel Barrymore (as President Andrew Jackson), Franchot Tone, Melvyn Douglas, James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart; 6th billed and very early in his career!), Beulah Bondi (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; as Rachel Jackson, the President's wife), Louis Calhern, Sidney Toler (as Daniel Webster), and Ward Bond NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been personally autographed (signed) by James Stewart! Our consignor purchased this many years and has no knowledge about the autograph, but we can't imagine that anyone would add a fake autograph to this ultra rare poster, so we feel certain it is authentic. However, our consignor does not have a certificate of authenticity. Also, this incredibly rare poster (see below) was very roughly handled over the years, and needs additional restoration, so bear this in mind before bidding. Also note that first release posters from this movie are extremely rare. Not only have we never before auctioned a three-sheet from this movie before we were consigned this poster, but we have also never auctioned any posters from this movie other than a single insert and half-sheet! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss along parts of many folds. Someone many years ago mounted it onto a thin linen and performed restoration to some of the above areas, but not all. Since that time, the poster was very roughly handled, and there are now some tears in the poster that were not there before, and there are many creases scattered throughout, and there are several areas where the poster is coming off of the linen, and the entire poster was folded back across the middle and is "lifting" from the linen there. Certainly, the only thing to be done with this extremely rare poster, is to have it removed from the thin linen and have it properly re-backed, and please look at our super-sized image to see the damage it has and consider the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
