An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Lost World, the classic 1925 Harry O. Hoyt silent fantasy dinosaur adventure thriller ("The World's Wonder Film"; "The greatest drama of adventure and romance your eyes ever have beheld."; "See gigantic pre-historic monsters clash with modern lovers in The Lost World"; "Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stupendous story"; "Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stupendous story"; with great special effects by Willis H. O'Brien who is billed as "Research and Technical Director") starring Bessie Love, Lewis Stone, Wallace Beery (as Professor George Edward Challenger, the protagonist from a series of Doyle stories), Lloyd Hughes, and Alma Bennett. Note that when the producer/director team of Ernest B. Schoedsack and Merian C. Cooper (who had made several acclaimed documentaries in remote areas of the world) were looking to make a fantasy movie set on a mythical island with a giant gorilla, they remembered the special effects from "The Lost World", and hired Willis O'Brien to do the special effects for their new movie, "King Kong"! "The Lost World" was O'Brien's first feature film, and he used the exact same stop-motion techniques of special effects that made "King Kong" so memorable. Note that the one-sheet poster for "The Lost World" shows an image of Wallace Beery pointing at a map of Africa, and there are NO special effects pictured on the poster. But the window card has a wonderful image of a dinosaur trampling on the residents of a city, and is THE poster to own from this movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that stop-motion, the process invented by Willis O'Brien, worked really incredibly on the screen, both in this movie and in the later King Kong in 1933, but when you see a still image of the dinosaurs, you can clearly tell that they are clay models, and they look much more like children's toys than they do menacing dinosaurs! This is a really rare and wonderful special effects still from this classic early fantasy movie. Note that not only does our current auction of 999 stills represent the absolute finest selection we have ever had in terms of quality of image and film, but it also represents the finest CONDITION group of stills we have ever had! Half of the stills are graded as being in "very good to fine" condition (which is our highest grade for vintage stills), but we were very strict on this, because otherwise, perhaps two thirds or three quarters of the stills would have received this grade! We downgraded stills to "very good" for pretty minor defects, and many of these might have received our "very good to fine" grade in the past. And the half of the stills that ARE in very good to fine condition would likely be graded "mint" by any other auction! This is the finest group of stills I have ever seen, and I can only hope to equal it someday! Condition: very good to fine. The still is in very nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
