An Original Vintage Movie Script (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm], 128 pages) (Learn More) Jumpin' Jack Flash, the 1986 Penny Marshall romantic action comedy ("A man named Jack has got her Jumpin' and the world may never be the same!"; "An Adventure in Comedy") starring Whoopi Goldberg, Stephen Collins, John Wood, Annie Potts, Carol Kane, Jonathan Pryce (in the title role as Jack), Jon Lovitz, Phil Hartman, James Belushi, and Tracey Ullman. Note that Burt Reynolds was originally set to direct this movie, but he had a falling out with producer Joel Silver, and Howard Zieff was hired. Jon Lovitz auditioned for Zieff, but did not get the part. When Penny Marshall took over as director, she learned that Lovitz had auditioned and offered him the part, and he accepted. Shelley Long was originally cast to play the lead role, but she left and Whoopi Goldberg was hired instead. Along with the multiple changes of directors and cast members, the movie went through many different scripts by many different screenwriters, and was revised many, many times! Also note that the script has the working title "Sweet Dreams", but the movie ultimately was called "Jumpin' Jack Flash". Note that this script was consigned to us directly from director/screenwriter Charles Shyer. Mr. Shyer tells us that this movie was intended to be a melodrama, with "no comedy whatsoever". As noted in our description of the film above, there were many cast and crew changes, and Mr. Shyer and Ms. Meyers completely rewrote the script, converting it into a comedy, with the new title "Jumpin' Jack Flash". But Mr. Shyer and Ms. Meyers "weren't thrilled with the final result", and they used pen names for their screen credit (Mr. Shyer as "J.W. Melville" and Ms. Meyers as "Patricia Irving"). Mr. Shyer is the director of many extremely popular movies from the 1970s to the present, many of which are romantic comedies, including House Calls, Private Benjamin, Baby Boom, remakes of Father of the Bride and The Parent Trap, and many others. Over the years, he collected scripts, which he received primarily in two different ways. He was friends with screenwriters, directors, and producers during those years, and they would sometimes send him scripts of their movies to get his opinion of them, and many of those are offered here. This is a rare opportunity to purchase original scripts that come directly from the personal collection of a prominent director/screenwriter! Condition: very good to fine.
