An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Garden of Eden, the 1928 Lewis Milestone silent Paris, France romantic comedy ("The Hotel Eden appraised her at once as a princess"; "Based on the play by Rudolf Bernnauer and Rudolph Oesterreicher"; a modern re-telling of the Cinderella fairy tale, with a small town girl who visits Paris, and who wins over a dashing playboy after she has transformed into an elegant beauty by a mysterious "fairy godmother") starring Corinne Griffith ("Her First United Artists Picture"), Lowell Sherman, Louise Dresser, Charles Ray, and Maude George. Note that director Lewis Milestone and art director William Cameron Menzies went on to great triumphs, but both had already been active in movies for a full decade! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned one example of this half-sheet, and that was 11 years ago (we also auctioned other posters from this movie, but those were mostly long ago as well)! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we think it would have a strong chance of lessening its condition, so we will only send it in a very large flat package, unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage). What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded. It had a tear that started in the top border and ran through the right side of Griffith's hair and down to the right edge of her eyebrow. It had a 4" tear in the left of the top border, extending into the "R" of "CORINNE". It had some tears and paper loss in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. Given the poster's defects described above, the restorer did a generally nice job, but you can still clearly see some signs of the defects and the restoration of the defects in parts of the poster, but the poster displays pretty well (see our super-sized images to get a good sense of exactly how the poster looks now).
