An Original 1928 Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Eine Dubarry Von Heute (released in the U.S. in 1928 as "A Modern Du Barry"), the 1927 Alexander Korda German silent France romantic businesswoman melodrama (about a lowly French shop girl who works her way up to becoming one of the most famous dress shop owners in Paris) starring Maria Corda, Alfred Abel, Friedrich Kayssler, Gyula Szoreghy, Jean Bradin, and Marlene Dietrich (in an early role). Note that this movie was a then current day updating of the 1901 David Belasco play, "Madame Du Barry", which was about a woman who lived during the French Revolution, and who started as a shopkeeper and became one of the leading figures of French royalty. Note that this was one of the last silent German movies released in the U.S. before the coming of sound made that impractical. The movie was released in Germany by UFA, who released it themselves in the U.S. through "UFA Films Inc.". Finally, note that star Maria Corda was a major Hungarian silent film actress who moved to Germany, where she was directed by Alexander Corda, who she married. At the height of her fame, he was mostly known as her director! But when sound came in, her career diminished greatly, and they were divorced in 1932, and he changed his name to Alexander Korda, and became one of the most famous British producers ever!

Important Added Info:

Note that in our last set of auctions that include multiple stills from single titles, we had 72 sets of stills that came from a wonderful group of just-discovered stills that are from 1927 to 1929, with the majority from 1928 exactly. Now, we are auctioning the remaining stills from this wonderful group, 131, all in separate auctions. In addition to them including a LOT of previously unseen stills (and sometimes from incredibly rare titles!), most of these stills have either snipes on the bottom or back, and many have some pencil writing on the back about the movie or actors. After these stills are auctioned, there will be no more stills from this wonderful collection!

Condition: very good.
