An Original Vintage English Movie Trade Ad (measures 11" x 16 3/4" [28 x 43 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More) Background (released in the U.S. in 1954 as "Edge of Divorce"), the 1953 Daniel Birt English post-World War II (WWII) family relationship melodrama starring Valerie Hobson, Philip Friend, Norman Wooland, Janette Scott, Mandy Miller, Jeremy Spenser, and Lily Kann. Note that Janette Scott is best remembered for her starring role in "Day of the Triffids" in 1963, which was immortalized in the lyrics of the song from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" that says "And I really got hot When I saw Janette Scott fight a triffid that spits poison and kills." She divorced her first husband and married Mel Torme in 1966, which pretty much ended her career, as she quickly had two children. Also note that Mandy Miller (born Carmen Isabella Miller) was an English child actress of the 1950s. She had her first role in "The Man in the White Suit" when she was 6 years old, and then she became quite popular as a child actress in depressing family melodramas in the 1950s in England. But when she turned 18, she quit show business forever, first becoming an au pair in New York City, and then marrying an architect and having three children. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a great two-page trade ad taken out of a Kinematograph Weekly English trade magazine (we have a number of them in this set of auctions, and also one-page English trade ads). Studios would run these elaborate 2-page ads in issues of this magazine, and they often had images not found on any of the regular movie posters (either English or U.S.). This 2-page trade ad was removed from a 1953 issue of this magazine, and it will look incredible displayed on the new owner's wall. The back of those two pages have text or ads for other movies from that time, and we have not pictured those back pages because the primary interest to bidders is the great two-page color ad, which measures approximately 11" x 17". Also note that this is a country of origin item for this English movie. Condition: very good. The ad was removed from a magazine (see above). It was the centerfold of the magazine so the two pages are on a single sheet, and there are staple holes at the spine (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
