One taunted her..."; "This year... the picture is 'Pinky'"; "...she passed for white!"; "The best film of the year is Pinky"; "Based on a novel by Cid Ricketts Sumner"; "Produced by Darryl F. Zanuck"; about a light-skinned black African American girl who passes for white, and the complications that ensue; 20th Century Fox massively diluted the power of the story by casting a white actress in the lead role, and they were obviously scared of the subject matter, for the posters only make reference to it in an oblique way) starring Jeanne Crain (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Patricia "Pinky" Johnson), Ethel Barrymore (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Ethel Waters (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), William Lundigan, Griff Barnett, and Frederick O'Neal (in his debut role). Note that John Ford directed a short amount of this film before being replaced by Elia Kazan, who claims to have re-shot all of Ford's material. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. We are doing something in this set of auctions we rarely do! A couple of years ago, we were approached by a very long time collector, and he asked us if he could give us an entire auction of single lobby cards by himself. We agreed, and held that auction in 2017, and later that same year, a different collector sent us a different group of 999 lobby cards and we repeated the process. Now we have a third such "single owner" collection. This one was originally assembled in Australia, which is why some of the cards have either Australian paper snipes attached or Australian ratings stamps (but many do not have them). This collection originally contained 1,100 cards, and we auctioned 100 of them in our March Major Auction, and now we are auctioning the remaining 999 in THIS set of auctions, and after this auction, there will be no more cards to be offered. As will immediately be evident when you look at the cards, many of them are from titles where you almost never see any lobby cards, so this is a rare opportunity to acquire many cards that almost never are offered for sale or at auction! Condition: good. The card was used in Australia and there is an Australian rating stamp above the title. There are pieces of tape and tape stains on the back of the card (some of which have bled through to the front). See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this card. Please do not bid on this card unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored. Learn More about condition grades
