ETHEL WATERS

Ethel Waters was a black African American actress and singer from the 1920s to the 1970s. She was one of the first actresses of color to achieve success in mainstream sound movies! Some of her movies include: The Sound & the Fury, Cabin in the Sky, The Heart is a Rebel, Pinky (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Gift of Gab, Rufus Jones for President, and On with the Show! Ethel passed away in 1977 at the age of 80.
