Dracula's Daughter, the 1936 Lambert Hillyer Universal vampire monster horror thriller sequel ("Look Out! She'll Get You!"; "She gives you that weird feeling!"; "Based upon the Bram Stoker story 'Dracula's Guest'"; "Story suggested by Oliver Jeffries"; the movie picks up right after 1931's Dracula ends, with Dracula dead; Van Helsing is arrested for his murder and imprisoned, and his friend, a psychiatrist, tries to help free him, and meanwhile, a mysterious countess appears, and there is a new string of murders!) starring Otto Kruger, Gloria Holden (in the title role as Countess Marya Zaleska), Marguerite Churchill, Edward Van Sloan (reprising his role as Professor Van Helsing from the original Dracula in 1931), Gilbert Emery, Irving Pichel, Billy Bevan (one of the better Charlie Chaplin imitators of the time), Nan Gray, Hedda Hopper, Halliwell Hobbes, Claude Allister, Edgar Norton, and E.E. Clive. Note that the screenplay for this movie was written by the same man who wrote the screenplay for the first Dracula, Garrett Fort. Unlike with Frankenstein, where the sequel, Bride of Frankenstein, was able to utilize parts of the novel that were left out of the first movie, 1931's Dracula used all of the novel, so Fort had to create a brand new story, and he did an excellent job, and many people feel this movie is in some ways superior to the original. It has better pacing, and Holden and Otto Kruger make great vampires, and there is even a scene of Holden with a female victim that has lesbian overtones! This movie is worth seeing if you are a fan of classic horror!
