An Original 1941 Aborted First Release Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Outlaw: The Story of Billy the Kid, the classic 1946 Howard Hughes biographical cowboy western romantic melodrama ("Trigger-fast action!"; "Sensation too startling to describe!"; "The last time Howard Hughes said he had someone to show you, he gave you two new stars... Jean Harlow and Paul Muni. Now he makes the same promise again and presents Jane Russell and Jack Buetel"; "At Last.. now you can see Howard Hughes' daring production The Outlaw"; produced by Howard Hughes) starring Jack Buetel (as Billy the Kid; "The Outlaw!"), Jane Russell (in her first big screen role!; "introducing Jane Russell"; "Mean.. Moody.. Magnificent"; "The woman who made him notorious!"), Thomas Mitchell (as Pat Garrett), Walter Huston (as Doc Holliday), Mimi Aguglia, and Joe Sawyer. The movie was almost released in 1941, but it was held up for five years due to censorship problems (there are posters and lobby cards from the aborted 1941 release, but they are extremely rare). Howard Hawks began this film as the director, but soon quit the project due to Hughes' constant interference. Hughes also designed the Cantilever bra for this film to better "show off" Russell's chest (who wouldn't wear it!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a lobby card from the intended 1941 release of this classic movie! Posters and lobby cards were printed, but then the release was cancelled. The movie did not receive its general release until 1946, 5 years later! Only a couple of posters and a couple of dozen lobby cards have surfaced from that aborted 1941 release. Of course, this card also has one of the absolute best images of Jane Russell, which is also wonderful! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. The card had paper tape on the back of the top border and an extra piece extending lower in the card on the back of the upper middle of the card. It also had small pieces of tape on the back of the bottom corners and on the back of the middle of the left and right borders, with one small piece on the back of the center of the card. Fortunately, none of this tape affected the front of the card, with the exception of the very top edge of the top blank border, where there are very slight tears, no doubt caused when the tape was on the back of those areas. Someone very carefully removed the tape from the back of the card using a solvent, and the only traces of the tape on the back of the card is the uneven darkening there. But as we said, there is no darkening on the front of the card. There are some tiny brown dot stains in the front of the blank borders, and the extremely tiny tears scattered in the left and right of the top blank border. Otherwise, the card is in really wonderful condition (see our images of the front and back of this great card)! Learn More about condition grades
