An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 14" x 20"; 85 pages; see below for contents). (Learn More) A Midsummer Night's Dream, the 1935 William Dieterle & Max Reinhardt romantic fantasy musical comedy ("Dances directed by Nijinska"; "Costumes by Max Ree"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; loosely based on the classic play by William Shakespeare) starring James Cagney (as Bottom), Joe E. Brown, Dick Powell, Jean Muir, Victor Jory (as Oberon), Verree Teasdale, Hugh Herbert, Anita Louise (as Titania), Frank McHugh, Ross Alexander, Ian Hunter, Mickey Rooney (as Puck), Grant Mitchell, Olivia De Havilland (as Hermia), Hobart Cavanaugh, and Otis Harlan NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that many of you know that I have collected pressbooks for many years, and THIS pressbook is the most elaborate one I have ever seen! It is made exactly like the studio yearbooks of the 1930s! It is spiral bound and hardcover. There is a book plate in the inside front cover that says "This book is the property of..." and it was surely printed by Warner Bros. and included so that they could personalize these super deluxe pressbooks to large theater owners. In the inside back cover, there is a "pocket" that contains "additional promotional ads and samples", and that is printed on the facing page, so it was created with the pocket there, and inside the pocket are samples of three different kinds of heralds, a booklet of reviews, a telephone hanger, a doorknob hanger, a bookmark, a blotter, a "photoplay studies" booklet in an envelope, a fold-up poster with a giant blow-up of a giant box office magazine ad, and an accessory order form listing all sizes of posters and lobby cards, with prices! The 85 pages of the pressbook are in black & white, but some are printed on silver paper and some are printed on a green paper. There is one page that is a fold-out. I can only imagine that Warner Bros. was VERY afraid that this Shakespearean adaptation would bomb out at the box office, so they pulled out all the stops to make an incredibly elaborate campaign! Condition: very good to fine, NO CUTS. The front and back hardcovers of the pressbook are "bumped" in some places around the edges, and there is some slight paper loss and some creases in those areas. There is some darkening and staining on the back cover which is completely blank. Otherwise, the pressbook is in really excellent condition, and it does not appear to have ever been used.
