Date Sold 12/26/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1928 (from the first release of this movie in Japan) Vintage Theatrical Folded Japanese Movie Poster (measures 11 1/2" x 25" [29 x 64 cm]) (Learn More) The Son of the Sheik, the 1926 George Fitzmaurice Arabian silent desert romantic adventure melodrama sequel ("Hail now! 'The Son of the Sheik'"; "A sequel to 'The Sheik'"; "From the novel by E.M. Hull - Adapted to the screen by Frances Marion"; the son has his way with a dancing girl, and her father captures him and tortures him as payback) starring Rudolph Valentino (in a dual title role as both Sheik Ahmed Ben Hassan and Ahmed, the Sheik's son; in his final movie role!), Vilma Banky (as Yasmin), George Fawcett, Montagu Love, and Karl Dane. Note that this movie was a sequel to Valentino's wildly successful 1920 "The Sheik". Unfortunately, he passed away when filming was completed, and it was not released until after his death. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster (we have never auctioned ANY Japanese movie paper for this title in all our years of auctioning until we were consigned this poster!). Not only that, but Japanese posters from before World War II are unbelievably scarce, even more so than posters from European countries where the same is true. But even MORE rare are Japanese posters from U.S. silent movies of the 1920s. Those top U.S. movies surely DID play in Japan, but virtually no posters of any kind survive (to illustrate this, know that we have only auctioned a total of seven 1920s Japanese posters from U.S. movies in all of our years of auctioning! Finally, note that as was somewhat common with Japanese posters at this time, a thin metal strip was attached to the top with a small string attached to the center of the strip. This was a common way to display posters in Japan at this time. However, it means that we can't roll the poster in with other posters, for fear that the metal strip may damage them. Because this poster has folds that have not diminished over time, we would prefer to send it folded in a flat package to the winning bidder. Condition: good to very good. The poster has five horizontal folds and a brown stain in the upper right border that extends very slightly into one of the letters. Otherwise it has pretty minor fold and border wear and it is in remarkable that it has survived as well as it has! Learn More about condition grades
