Frances Marion was a screenwriter from the 1910s to the 1970s. She was married to cowboy star Fred Thomson, who stepped on a nail at age 38 and tragically died of tetanus, leaving Marion with two young children, but she still managed to take part in the writing of 168 movies (many at MGM, where she penned many of their biggest hits of the 1920s and 1930s), including The Wind, Dinner at Eight, The Cossacks, The Red Mill, and The Scarlet Letter. She passed away in 1973 at the age of 84.
