Important Added Info: Note that for this 1942 re-release, RKO not only added a really cool "is loose!" below the title, but they also added great different artwork of Kong holding Fay Wray in the lower right corner (and of course, these cards are full-color, which is not always the case with re-releases). They are certainly far more rare than the original 1933 cards, likely because not nearly as many theaters played the movie in 1942, whereas in 1933, the movie was a massive success and played all over the world to great acclaim! Also note that this lobby card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a very light paper backing (acid-free), that keeps the "feel" of the lobby card similar to that of the original lobby card. Some restorers prefer to paperback lobby cards on to a heavy backing, while others prefer to use a very lightweight backing. The advantage of a lightweight backing is that the card still "feels" like a regular lobby card, but a heavier backing makes restoration easier to do and less noticeable. Finally, note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had two small stains near the top of Kong's chest, with similar small stains scattered in the background stage area. There was a 1 1/2" tear near the middle of the right border and small paper loss in the lower right blank border, with paper loss in the bottom right corner that slightly affected the yellow background area. There was small paper loss in the other three blank corners. There were some pinholes around the edges. Overall, the lobby card was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was well backed by a talented professional, and the above defects were expertly restored, but the restorer did not want to do excessive restoration, so you can see slight signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects when you look at the card close up.
