Also included is an original vintage 7" x 8 1/2" still glued to the back (see below). (Learn More) The Outlaw: The Story of Billy the Kid, the classic 1946 Howard Hughes biographical cowboy western romantic melodrama ("Trigger-fast action!"; "Sensation too startling to describe!"; "The last time Howard Hughes said he had someone to show you, he gave you two new stars... Jean Harlow and Paul Muni. Now he makes the same promise again and presents Jane Russell and Jack Buetel"; "At Last.. now you can see Howard Hughes' daring production The Outlaw"; produced by Howard Hughes) starring Jack Buetel (as Billy the Kid; "The Outlaw!"), Jane Russell (in her first big screen role!; "introducing Jane Russell"; "Mean.. Moody.. Magnificent"; "The woman who made him notorious!"), Thomas Mitchell (as Pat Garrett), Walter Huston (as Doc Holliday), Mimi Aguglia, and Joe Sawyer. The movie was almost released in 1941, but it was held up for five years due to censorship problems (there are posters and lobby cards from the aborted 1941 release, but they are extremely rare). Howard Hawks began this film as the director, but soon quit the project due to Hughes' constant interference. Hughes also designed the Cantilever bra for this film to better "show off" Russell's chest (who wouldn't wear it!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this trade ad, which is from the intended 1941 release of this classic movie, has a great 7" x 8 1/2" candid still of Jane Russell and Jack Bueutel lightly glued to the back. We know this was done by the studio, because it has printing on the back under it that reads "JANE RUSSELL and JACK BUETEL The two most thrilling star-discoveries in years ...brought to the screen by Howard Hughes, they mean now life-blood to your business!", so this trade ad was surely created with the still on the back. We have never auctioned it before, and given that the 1941 release was canceled (although posters, lobby cards, and stills were printed before it was cancelled), this is likely incredibly rare. Note that the movie did not receive its general release until 1946, 5 years later! Condition: good. There are smudges and scuffs running down the center of Russell's image on the front. There is a small tear in the middle right that was repaired with tape from the back. The still lightly glued to the back (see above), with glue solely on the back of the top of the still, has a 4" diagonal crease at top center that runs through Russell's hair and forehead and down into Buetel's shoulder, as well as another smaller crease in the left of her chest.
