Date Sold 3/16/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Test Pilot, the 1938 Victor Fleming military Army airplane aviation pilot romantic melodrama ("MGM's Greatest All-Star Thrill-Romance"; "Original Story by Frank Wead"; written by Howard Hawks; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a devil-may-care test pilot who has a best friend who is his mechanic, and when they make an emergency landing in a corn field, the pilot sweeps the proverbial "farmer's daughter" off her feet!) starring Clark Gable ("'King' of the screen Greater than in 'San Francisco'!"), Myrna Loy ("'Queen' of the screen Greater than in 'After the Thin Man'!"), Spencer Tracy ("Academy Award Winner Greater than in 'Captains Courageous'!"), Lionel Barrymore, Samuel S. Hinds, Marjorie Main, and Virginia Grey. Note that this was one of three movies that Gable and Tracy starred in as best friends (the other two are "San Francisco" and "Boom Town"), and all three are highly enjoyable and have aged really well, and the chemistry between the two men appears to have extended beyond their onscreen time! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1938 movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only auctioned two window cards (and some lobby cards and stills) from this movie until we received this half-sheet (and the last window card was 15 years ago)! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster has tiny paper loss at the crossfold and some tiny creases, tiny bits of paper loss, and fine surface paper loss on the folds. It has tape on the back of the left half of the horizontal fold and on the back of most of the vertical fold, with tiny paper loss in the blank corners. A piece was separated from the top left corner and someone re-attached it with clear tape from the back, and there is tiny surface paper loss (see our image). This great and rare poster can certainly be displayed just as it is, or one could choose to have restoration performed to the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
