An Original Vintage Campaign Book (measures 12 1/2" x 16 3/4" [32 x 43 cm]; 90 pages) (Learn More)

Paramount Pictures 15th Birthday Group, the 1927 campaign book commemorating the fifteen year anniversary of Paramount Pictures and featuring information about upcoming movies for the year. This was not a standard campaign book. It has a special leather-like cover that contained loose pages that were held together by a string that ran through holes in the cover. The only one of this we were consigned has 45 interior loose pages (printed both sides, so 90 pages in all), but they are loose, so we don't know if that is all that were originally contained in this book. It is surely incredibly rare (we once auctioned just the covers, with no interior pages, but otherwise, we have only auctioned it the one time). Some of the stars and movies include: The Wedding March (Erich von Stroheim), Kid Boots (Eddie Cantor and Clara Bow), So's Your Old Man (W.C. Fields), Hazards of the Jungle, Sorrows of Satan (D.W. Griffith), The Show Off (Louise Brooks), Casey at the Bat, Variety (E.A. Dupont), Mantrap (Clara Bow), Metropolis (Fritz Lang), Harold Lloyd, Gloria Swanson, and many more! This is surely one of the nicest assortments of trade ads we have ever seen, and it is exceptionally rare!

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this campaign book (it is the one referred to in the description above)! As noted above it can be difficult with these campaign books to know if they are missing pages, because sometimes studios would make adjustments to the book after they were first printed, removing a movie or adding a movie. We have seen campaign book that appear to be the same but have slightly altered contents and we have also seen ones that have mostly the same contents but one has additional material the other does not have. Had they numbered the pages, it would have made it super easy to tell if pages are missing, but because they didn't, it is very difficult to know. About the only time you can be certain is when half of a two page spread is missing. In the case of this book, because it has loose pages we don't know for certain if it is complete, but we think it is. It DOES have lots of wonderful ads (see our many images). Also note: We have 19 images of this campaign book, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 19 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 9.

Condition: very good. As noted above, we don't know for certain if it is complete, but we think it is and the grade is based on that. It had three strings intended to go through all of the interior pages and through the leather covers. Someone long ago removed those strings, no doubt so they could better view the ads. Two of these strings are still present and one is missing (and the two that are present are loose and not used as intended.) Otherwise the interior pages are in generally nice condition (see our many images).
