An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Studio Campaign Book (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4"; 66 pages) (Learn More) 21st Annual Announcement, Fox Film Corporation, the 1924 Fox Film campaign book, sent to theater owners to encourage them to show Fox movies. The book includes 66 pages with one and two-page spreads on Fox's upcoming movies. Some of the movies listed include The Last of the Duanes (Zane Grey & Tom Mix), Gold Heels, Dante's Inferno, The Dancers ("A Story of Dance-mad Women"), Teeth (Tom Mix), Damaged Souls (John Ford), Darwin Was Right ("With Apologies to P.T. Barnum"), The Painted Lady, That French Lady (Shirley Mason, and six other Shirley Mason movies!), In Love With Love, Hunting Wild Animals in Hollywood, Buck Jones ("In Seven Redblooded Western Thrillodramas"), Troubles of a Bride, 20 Sunshine Comedies/17 Imperial Comedies, and many more! Note that many of the pages have signed artwork, by many different (quite talented) artists, and that some of the pages have art by an artist whose signatures we can read include "Usabal" (his name was Lotte Usabal, and he was a well-known illustration artist of that time period), "Hilliker", "Binty", "P. Monahan", "Marian Jochimsen", and "J.Y. Ranok". Note that, because Fox was one of the foremost studios at this time and had some of the biggest name stars, they prepared a campaign book filled with beautiful full-color artwork! We have included images of the cover of the book and fourteen of the two-page spreads (and we did not make a big effort to find the best ones!). Note that even though this campaign book was sent to many theater owners, it appears that very few examples have survived. I have been a collector of campaign books and related material for many years, and I know for certain that this campaign book is extremely rare! Note that some of the movies listed in this book may never have been made at all, and some had their titles changed, and some had their cast or director changed! Note that studios almost always spent far more money preparing campaign books than they did preparing movie posters (often hiring very talented and well-known illustration artists), because campaign books directly benefited the studio in getting theaters to book the movies, whereas posters more benefited the theaters, rather than the studios (although of course, what was good for the theaters was ultimately good for the studios as well). Finally, note that campaign books in general are extremely rare, and the best of them have often sold for hundreds of dollars, and in the case of the very finest, thousands of dollars! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good to very good. This is a soft cover book. The covers came loose from the book years ago, and someone re-attached them with five pieces of clear tape, and the areas between the pieces of tape have become tattered at the spine. The outer edge of both covers has some paper loss, and the inside front cover has a small tape stain in the left blank border. The interior pages are generally in nice condition, with very slight smudges or stains on just a few interior pages. WE HAVE LOOKED THROUGH THIS BOOK VERY CAREFULLY, AND WE FEEL CERTAIN IT IS 100% COMPLETE, WITH NO MISSING PAGES OR CUT OUT PORTIONS! Learn More about condition grades
