Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three examples of this 1933 first release pressbook, and the last one was 10 years ago, when it sold for $6,252! Note that RKO KNEW that they had a real "winner" with this movie, and they made an incredibly elaborate pressbook that was over-sized and had lots of full-color pages, which picture many of the posters in full-color, which is quite unusual for a pressbook. The cover has a 12" x 32" full-color image (with a full bleed) of the 24-sheet, and the back cover shows a large full-color image of the better style three-sheet! One could display the cover or any of the other full-color pages on a wall, and they will really astound the viewers! Each original pressbook was sent to theaters with a die-cut herald "tipped in", but those are often missing (but the pressbook offered here still has its herald attached). This is surely the "King" of all pressbooks! Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, as well as several of the interior pages, but we really wish we could have pictured EVERY one of the 20 pages, because they are all incredible! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Note that for the past 18 months, we have auctioned one of the most extraordinary collections of pressbooks ever assembled! What made it so extraordinary is that it contained lots and lots of extremely rare pressbooks, mostly from the 1930s and 1940s, including many that we had never auctioned before. In our last few regular auctions, we auctioned most of the last of this gigantic collection, and now, in this April Major Auction, we are auctioning the very last of them, and one quick look tells you that "we saved many of the very best for last"! This is your FINAL opportunity to buy from this extraordinary collection! Condition: good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was folded across the middle. This very large pressbook had tape down most of the spine and some reinforcing pieces of tape down the spine of several interior pages. It also has some small tape repairs on the edges of many interior pages. There are some tears and small paper loss on the cover of the pressbook that has the 24-sheet image, including in Kong's face, and tears and tiny paper loss on several of the folds. Obviously, one would prefer to find this incredible pressbook in better condition, but it is incredibly rare, and most of the color pages can be displayed as they are, or certainly, one might choose to do restoration to some pages, or even the entire pressbook.
