A Set of 3 Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Special Movie Posters (measure 27" x 40") (Learn More)

The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm, the 1962 Henry Levin & George Pal ("Fairy Tales directed by George Pal") fairy tale musical fantasy ("Share the true-life adventures of two famous story-telling brothers... and see their fabulous stories actually come to life!"; "'Wonderful' ...is the word for it!"; "Wonderful songs! Wonderful dances! Wonderful color!"; "In wonderful color!"; "Wonderful romances, dances, adventures! Stars, songs, story!"; "Based on 'Die Bruder Grimm' by Dr. Hermann Gerstner"; "Screen Story by David P. Harmon") starring Laurence Harvey (in the title role as Wilhelm Grimm), Claire Bloom, Karlheinz Bohm (in the title role as Jacob Grimm), Walter Slezak, Oscar Homolka, Barbara Eden, Yvette Mimieux, Russ Tamblyn, Jim Backus, Beulah Bondi, Terry-Thomas, and Buddy Hackett. Note that this movie opened to a very limited number of theaters in Cinerama, and after its initial engagement, it played in many theaters NOT in Cinerama. Very, very few items survive from the initial Cinerama release. None of them are regular sized posters, surely because the Cinerama theaters that it premiered at made their own posters!

Artist: Reynold Brown
Important Added Info: Note that there have always been two incredibly elusive titles for collectors of Cinerama posters from Cinerama movies. One is "How the West Was Won", and there are a few posters that are POSSIBLY from the 1962 U.S. Cinerama release (but there is doubt about them), and the other is this title, "The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm", and, as far as I know, no one has ever seen a single original U.S. Cinerama poster from this movie! This week on eBay, we are selling FOUR posters that have just been uncovered (one by itself, and three in a lot of 3), and they are from the U.S. Cinerama release of this movie! I have never heard or seen of these posters before, and, as I say, I have never seen or heard of any other posters from the U.S. Cinerama release of this movie. Also note that these posters were never machine folded!

Condition: very good. All three of the posters were never folded. The poster at the top of our image has four areas of waterstaining in the left half of the top border. Each is somewhat triangular-shaped, and each is primarily in the gold border, but each slightly extends into the artwork itself. The stains are very noticeable from the back (and they have discolored the back, but they are not that distracting at all from the front). The right 1 1/2" of the poster was folded back at one time. There are creases, scuffs, and some tiny tears around the edges of the poster. The left 12" of the bottom border is very creased, and there is a 1" tear three inches from the bottom left corner. There is a 2" jagged tear in the upper left border. The poster that is in the middle of our image has almost identical staining to the top border (obviously, the posters were rolled together when the staining occurred). There are a much lesser number of creases and scuffs in this image and around the edges of the poster. There is a 5" tear in the middle of the right border. The poster that is in the bottom of our image has waterstaining in the bottom border that is very similar to that of the other two posters' staining in their top borders (obviously, this poster was rolled upside-down to the other two when the staining occurred). There are some creases scattered throughout the image and some creases and a few tiny tears in the borders. There is a 6" tear in the middle of the left border. The above is the entire sum of the defects of these three posters. They are the sort that respond really well to expert restoration. After a simple linenbacking by a talented professional (and it is very likely that much of the waterstaining would be removed entirely by chemical means), all three of these posters will look fantastic, and they will have very little restoration anywhere in the image areas!

This poster has survived in pretty good condition, but has some imperfections. We may have written a few words about those imperfections, but we may not have, as you can likely see them by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster. We feel that this poster would be acceptable to most collectors, but if you are condition conscious (or if you would be bothered by small defects that are not easily discernable from our larger images) then you should not bid on this poster. Note that many "larger" size posters have tiny defects, like creases and tears on some foldlines, and tiny paper loss at crossfolds, even if they are completely unused and in quite nice condition. If you are like most collectors, and are forgiving of minor defects, then we think you will likely be happy with all items we grade "very good"!
