eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 5s0022 INSPIRATION WC 1931 art of sexy French streetwalker Greta Garbo & Robert Montgomery, rare! Date Sold 9/6/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Inspiration (released in some countries as "Yvonne"), the 1931 Clarence Brown Paris model romantic prostitution melodrama ("A Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer All Talking Picture"; based on the novel 'Sapho' by Alphonse Daudet; about a French streetwalker who finds true love with a handsome young man, but she leaves him because of her past, and then she returns to him, but he learns about her past and leaves her, and that makes him afraid she will kill herself, and he returns to her, but then she leaves him again!) starring Greta Garbo, Robert Montgomery, Lewis Stone, Marjorie Rambeau, and Judith Vosselli. Note that there was a French language version of this movie filmed simultaneously, but with a different cast (with Mary Marquet in the lead role), but that movie was made during the time MGM and Pathe had a co-production deal, and it fell apart at exactly this time, and Pathe sued MGM over this film and won, so it was not released until 1934, three years after it was made. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned two examples of this window card, and only one in the last 11 years! Also note that the card measures very slightly under 14" x 22" (an extremely tiny amount in each direction!) and has no left, right, or bottom blank borders, but it has NOT been trimmed (this was done at a time when MGM was experimenting with having as few borders as possible). Condition: good to very good. The card had a 1" x 7" piece that had entirely separated from the rest of the card in the bottom left corner. It affected the sleeve and the black background. It also had pinholes and some tears in parts of the borders. There was an uneven tear in the lower right border that extended into the black background below Garbo's hair and slightly into the hair. There was a semi-circular tear above that, that extended into the top of Garbo's hair. There was a tiny pinhole in Montgomery's jacket near his shirt. Someone taped the separated piece from the back, and put tape on the back of the other defects, and then performed slight paint restoration to the above areas, without backing the card. You can clearly see the restoration that was done, but this extremely rare card still displays well! Learn More about condition grades
