Genesis II, the 1973 John Llewellyn Moxey futuristic science fiction (sci-fi) melodrama (produced and written by Gene Roddenberry) starring Alex Cord, Mariette Hartley, Ted Cassidy, Percy Rodrigues, and Harvey Jason. Note that after Star Trek was canceled in 1969, Gene Roddenberry looked to get back onto series TV. In 1973, he used what had been planned for a single episode of Star Trek (where the Enterprise visits a post-apocalyptic planet) as the basis for this TV movie, "Genesis II". The plot concerned a scientist who awoke after hundreds of years in suspended animation into a post-apocalyptic world where much science has been lost, and it is a primitive totalitarian society, and the scientist joins a resistance group of men trying to overthrow the women. This TV movie was intended to be the pilot for a TV series, but alas, it was not picked up. Undaunted, Roddenberry waited one year and then resurrected the idea as a new pilot, "Planet Earth", with much of the same plot elements and characters of the earlier pilot (with John Saxon in the lead role this time), but this time, he threw in the added major plot twist that had the men in the post-apocalyptic society being treated like pets by the women who completely control the world! Unfortuantely, this too was not picked up as a series. At this point, Roddenberry returned to Star Trek with an animated series, followed by the first Star Trek movie, "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" in 1979, and the rest of his life was devoted to all things Star Trek!
