Date Sold 1/26/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Murder in the Air, the 1940 Lewis Seiler spy espionage military war action thriller ("Hidden enemies, Stolen Secrets, Sudden Death!"; "A battle aboard a doomed dirigible!"; there are spies and secret agents everywhere, and Ronald Reagan needs to save the day; no doubt he carried memories of this movie during his Presidential years!) starring Ronald Reagan, John Litel, Lya Lys, James Stephenson, Eddie Foy Jr., and Robert Warwick. Note that this movie was the final sequel to the popular "Secret Service of the Air" (there were three previous movies), all based on the same source material, and all starring Ronald Reagan! All four movies came out in a little over a year. Also note that Lya Lys was a German-born French actress who had appeared in some Hollywood MGM movies in the very early 1930s. She signed a contract with Warner Bros. in 1939, and she appeared in three of their movies, and this was the final one. After, there were no more film roles, but she rebounded with work as a cabaret singer, and she married for a fourth time and retired, and passed away in 1986 at the age of 78. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning and we have only auctioned U.S. lobby cards for this title and no other movie paper whatsoever! Note also that the poster has a few stamps on back that indicate that they came from the legendary "Cozy Theater" collection! Condition: good. The poster has slight discoloration along the vertical foldline due to exposure to moisture (see our image). There is approximately a 5" patch of the slight discoloration around the upper crossfold, which has approximately 1" of separation, and each crossfold has tiny paper loss. There is a crease along the vertical foldline and the center vertical foldline has a few creases, tiny tears and areas of paper loss that are backed with clear tape (between the lower crossfold and center crossfold). Each portion of the lower half of the poster has an ink pad stamp (see above) on back but it has little or no effect on the front. However, this is the kind of poster that responds really well to restoration. It is likely that many or most of the stains along the vertical foldline can be removed chemically, and after linenbacking with proper restoration the ultra-rare poster will look fantastic (but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.)
