An Original Vintage Theatrical Argentinean Movie Pressbook (measures 11" x 14 3/4" [28 x 37 cm]; 21 pages). Also included is a tipped-in herald that has 4 pages (it measures 7 3/4" x 10"). (Learn More) Gaslight, the 1944 George Cukor suspense mystery thriller ("Strange drama of a captive sweetheart!"; "M-G-M's thrilling Gaslight"; "Strange drama of a captive sweetheart!"; "Based upon the play by Patrick Hamilton"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a woman whose strange husband is trying to make her think she is going insane, and her friend who tries to prevent that from happening) starring Charles Boyer (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Ingrid Bergman (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Joseph Cotten, Dame May Whitty, Angela Lansbury (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; in her first movie role!), Barbara Everest, and Heather Thatcher. Note that there have been many real life cases where someone has tried to make their spouse think they are losing their sanity, and it is commonly referred to as "gaslighting" that person, because of this famous movie with that plot! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that, as explained below, this pressbook is for the Castellano version of this movie in Argentina. But what is interesting is that all the inside ads are printed with "Toda en Espanol". However, the cover has "Toda en Castellano" on it, and there is a snipe glued to the first interior page which explains (in Spanish) that even though the interior pages say "Espanol", the posters can be ordered with "Castellano" on them instead! Note that apparently they had a similar situation in Argentina to that in the U.S., in that there was a large Spanish speaking population in America in the 1930s and 1940s, and studios would create dubbed versions of their movies in Spanish, and they would release them to U.S. theaters in areas that had large Spanish speaking populations, and they would print special posters that said "Toda en Espanol". We have only seen a very few Argentinean posters like this, which were apparently printed for use in areas of Argentina where Castilian was spoken, and there was a dubbed version of this movie created, and this pressbook reads "Toda en Castellano", which makes it a very interesting curiosity.
