Dame May Whitty was an English actress from the 1910s to the 1940s. She was born in 1865, and by 1918, she had done so much (including supporting the English troops in World War I), that she was named Dame Commander of the British Empire, thus becoming "Dame May Whitty", and since most of her movies were made after that, she was always billed in that way. Some of her movies include: Night Must Fall (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), The Lady Vanishes, Suspicion, Gaslight, and Mrs. Miniver (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film). She passed away in 1948 at the age of 82.
