An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More)

the late 1940s (likely 1948) Realart double-bill release ("The Phantom Monster Show!"; "Good pictures like good books never grow old") of Son of Frankenstein, the classic 1939 Rowland V. Lee Universal monster horror thriller ("Mysterious! Weird! Horrifying!"; "The greatest fear figures in screen history... all in Universal's NEW cavalcade of horror!"; the third Universal "Frankenstein" movie) starring Basil Rathbone (in the title role as the original Dr. Frankenstein's son), Boris Karloff ( in the title role as the Frankenstein monster), Bela Lugosi (as Ygor), Lionel Atwill, Josephine Hutchinson, and Donnie Dunagan (as Peter von Frankenstein) AND The Bride of Frankenstein, the classic 1935 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The Monster Demands a Mate!"; "The monster thriller"; "Who will be The Bride of Frankenstein. Who will dare?"; the second of the Universal Frankenstein movies, and the only example I am aware of where a sequel is clearly superior to the original movie!; this is James Whale's masterpiece, and almost everyone agrees it is among the finest movies ever made, regardless of genre) starring Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Colin Clive (as Dr. Henry Frankenstein), Valerie Hobson (as the bride of Dr. Frankenstein), Elsa Lanchester (in the title role as the bride of the Frankenstein monster, and also as Mary Shelley!), Una O'Connor, Ernest Thesiger (as Dr. Pretorius), E.E. Clive, O.P. Heggie, John Carradine, Dwight Frye (as Karl), and Gavin Gordon

Important Added Info: Note that this poster was machine folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: good to very good. The posters and lobby cards on this title are very often found with snipes or glue stains over one of the two movies that were shown as part of the double bill, because many theaters receiving this poster only showed one of the two movies, and covered over the part of the poster the related to the other movie. This poster does NOT have anything covering either of the two titles. The poster was roughly tri-folded at one time and there are many creases in both of those foldlines. There is a 2" tear near the middle of the upper foldline, which extends into the monster's lips and the bride's nose, and someone put paper tape on the back of that tear, and, years later, when that tape fell off, someone else put clear tape on the back of that tear. There were three vertical tears in the bottom foldline (one was 1/2" and went into the "N" of "RATHBONE"; one was 2" and went into the "A" of "KARLOFF"; the last was a 1/4" in the top of the "O" of "KARLOFF"). Again, someone put paper tape on the back of these two tears, and then years later, when the paper tape was lost, re-covered the tears with clear tape. There are many creases in the right 3" of both folds, with the ones in the top foldline extending 1" above and 2" below, and the ones in the bottom foldline extending 3" above. The creases at the left ends of the foldlines extend above and below the folds, but not as much as those on the right. It is important to note that, other than the tape described above, the poster has never been restored in any way, and has no other tape. I could certainly imagine many collectors displaying this great poster just as it is. Of course, any talented restorer could easily paperback the poster. Paperbacking would greatly diminish the creases on both foldlines, and after some slight touch up, the poster would look really fantastic!

IN THIS SPECIAL HALLOWEEN AUCTION, we have given a more detailed overall condition grade along with more details about the condition described in words. Of course, we could not describe every single defect, plus there are some defects (like separation on folds, tape on the back, extremely tiny pinholes, etc) which can be VERY difficult to see, even in our largest "super-sized" image. Therefore we strongly recommend that you BOTH read our written description of the item, AND ALSO look at our super-sized image to see the extent of the defects that we describe and to examine the poster for minor defects that we did NOT describe.
