An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 10 3/4" x 14" [27 x 36 cm]; 20 pages) (Learn More) Night of Mystery, the 1937 E.A. Dupont (Ewald Andre Dupont) detective mystery crime thriller ("Based upon a mystery novel by S.S. Van Dine") starring Grant Richards (as Philo Vance), Roscoe Karns, Helen Burgess, Ruth Coleman, and June Martel. Note that William Powell first played Philo Vance in 1929's "The Canary Murder Case" and after the character proved very popular, he followed it the next year with "The Greene Murder Case", after which Basil Rathbone took over the role that same year in "The Bishop Murder Case". After Powell played Vance again in "The Benson Murder Case" (which was also made in a Spanish language version with an entirely different case), he then played him one more time in "The Kennel Murder Case" in 1933, but the character also appeared in ten more movies between 1934 and 1947, with other actors in the lead roles. Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good to very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook was removed from a bound volume and there is some damage down the spine (see our image) and the covers have separated from the spine.
