An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Broken Lullaby (released in other English-speaking countries as "The Man I Killed"), the 1932 Ernst Lubitsch World War I (WWI) melodrama (written by Samson Raphaelson; about a French musical student who is goes into the military and who ends up killing a German soldier who was a classmate of his, and he travels to Germany to meet the young man's family) starring Lionel Barrymore, Nancy Carroll, Phillips Holmes, Louise Carter, and Zasu Pitts. Note that Phillips Holmes had made an impression in some movies in the late 1920s. In 1931, he would get the lead in the first version of "An American Tragedy", which made it seem like he would become a major star, but that didn't materialize. He had a major affair with Libby Holman, but that was certainly complicated, and when they broke up, she immediately married his brother! Oddly, years later, Holman would have another very complicated affair with Montgomery Clift, who played the same part in the remake of "An American Tragedy", retitled "A Place in the Sun". Sadly, Holmes died in a plane crash in 1942. I am very surprised no one has made a movie about his life, or a joint movie about him and Libby Holman! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1932 movie posters from this Ernst Lubitsch movie are incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single studio-issued poster or lobby card from this movie (just some "trolley cards") until we received this window card! Condition: good. There is a paper snipe stapled over the top area. It slightly covers the top edge of the image, but it can be easily removed, and there is not damage to the part of the image you don't see (there is also a neatly printed top area under it). There is paper loss in the top right blank corner and some nail holes and stains in the top and bottom of the card, with a nail hole in the middle background area and some scuffs and scratches in the middle right (see our image).
