An Undated (probably 1960s or 1970s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 23 1/4" x 31 1/2" [59 x 80 cm]) (Learn More) Jour de Fete (released in English-speaking countries as "The Big Day"), the classic 1948 Jacques Tati French postman mail comedy ("Rollicking fun for everyone"; "Delicious French burlesque"; about the postman in a small French town, who delivers mail on a bicycle, and is mocked by the residents, but everything changes when he watches an American movie about improvements in the U.S. Postal Service, and he tries to implement some of those improvements in his town, with very mixed results) starring Jacques Tati, Guy Decomble, Paul Frankeur, Santa Relli, Maine Vallee, Roger Rafal, Jacques Beauvais, and Delcassan. Note that director/star Jacques Tati had been a comic and pantomimist in French theaters in the 1930s, and during France's occupation in World War II, he lived in a small French town where he got the idea to make a short film about the postman in that town, and it never was finalized, but after the war, he revived the idea and turned it into this, his first feature film! Since that time, he has only made a handful of additional films, but everyone agrees he is a comic genius! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Michel Landi Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.
UPDATED 12/12/2013: Note that we initially listed this poster as being from the first release of the film but it seems likely it is from a 1960s or 1970s re-release. We have heard that it might be a poster created by a specific theater for a showing but it also uses the same (but incomplete; see the Condition Description for more info) art as a 1970s French re-release poster. Condition: good. The poster was printed in green only and it appears to be either some kind of printer's test of that color in the process or it is simply printed this way in error! If anyone knows more about this poster and why it is in only one color, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Other than the above, the poster is in pretty nice condition.
