Date Sold 8/14/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1953 Re-Release Die-Cut Movie Mobile (measures 12 1/2" x 21 1/2") (Learn More) Mighty Joe Young, the classic 1949 Ernest B. Schoedsack fantasy animal gorilla ape thriller ("Striking! Startling! Staggering!"; "Merian Cooper's amazing adventure in the unusual!"; "Staggering sensation! Electrifying excitement!"; "The ten most terrific thrills ever pictured"; "The cyclonic cavalcade of electrifying sensations that makes your eyes pop out and your heart skip a beat!"; produced by John Ford & Merian C. Cooper; with special effects by Ray Harryhausen, in his first movie, and "Technical Creator Willis O'Brien", creator of King Kong!) starring Terry Moore, Ben Johnson, Robert Armstrong, Frank McHugh, Douglas Fowley, Paul Guilfoyle, Nestor Paiva, and Pat Barton. Note that Ray Harryhausen was sadly not given any credit on the posters for this movie, likely because he was unknown at this time, but Willis O'Brien was credited, no doubt in the hopes that people would remember him from King Kong! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that because the tagline "It's Alive" was used on all of the 1953 re-release movie paper for this classic movie, and was NOT used on the 1949 first release movie paper, we feel it is incredibly likely that this mobile (which is not dated) is from the 1953 re-release, and we are listing it that way. Also note that this mobile display (which we have never before auctioned) was designed to be hung from the ceiling by a string through a hole in the top center, and it has the same image on both sides, so it could viewed from either direction (we photographed each side). Condition: good to very good. The string that was originally attached to the top is missing, but of course, it could be easily replaced. One side has a 1/2" tear in the bottom border and a 1/4" tear and a 1" tear in the upper right border. It has faint creases and smudges down the left, with a few faint stains in the bottom letters of the title. It also has small paper loss in the upper left and some tiny bits of paper loss in the upper right, but these are not that noticeable because of the die-cut nature of the borders (see our images of both sides to see where this is). The other side has the same tears, but it has surface paper loss in three areas in the border, where it was taped to something, so obviously, one would choose to display it on the other side! We would think that almost any collector could happily display this extremely rare mobile as it is, or certainly, restoration could be performed. Learn More about condition grades
