HYDE Spanish/US 3sh 1941 Spencer Tracy, Ingrid Bergman & Lana Turner, rare! Date Sold 4/23/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the classic 1941 Victor Fleming romantic love triangle horror thriller ("A good woman -- A bad woman -- He needed the love of both!"; "He wanted excitement... yet he dared not admit it to himself. He yearned for secret romance... but he hid his desires from his beautiful young fiancee. Then his dreams became reality... and thrilling drama flooded his lie."; "Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson") starring Spencer Tracy (in the title role as Dr. Henry Jekyll/Mr. Hyde), Ingrid Bergman, Lana Turner, Donald Crisp, Ian Hunter, Barton MacLane, and C. Aubrey Smith. Note that this movie was a remake of the 1920 silent movie with John Barrymore, and also a remake of the 1931 sound version with Fredric March. Not only were March and Tracy Best Actor Oscar winners, but they also much later played opposite each other in the courtroom drama, "Inherit the Wind". Also note that it appears that MGM was somewhat shy about presenting this movie as a horror movie, because unlike the earlier versions, both of which were from Paramount Pictures, MGM not only did not push the horror elements of this movie in their advertising, but they also barely showed Tracy as Hyde in any of their publicity material! Finally, note that based on their previous roles each actress had taken, it would have seemed much more reasonable to have Lana Turner play the "bad" woman and have Ingrid Bergman play Dr. Jekyll's noble girlfriend, but the two took the opposite roles, and both did admirably! Important Added Info: Note that we can't say for certain that this poster was printed in 1941, or that it is from a re-release. Please do not bid on the poster unless you can accept this uncertainty. Also note that we have never before auctioned this Spanish language three-sheet! Note that this three-sheet was printed in the United States for use at theaters with Spanish speaking audiences (this was done most by MGM, starting in the 1930s, but it was done by the other major studios as well, and often the posters would have the exact same image as the English language poster, except the writing would be in Spanish, and on posters from the 1930s and 1940s there would be an added "Toda en Espanol!", meaning "Entirely in Spanish!", printed within the image). Sometimes posters from the 1960s or later will have the word "SPANISH" printed in the bottom border (or sometimes stamped on the back of the poster). Also note that this three-sheet was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Condition: fair to good. There are many creases, several tears, and some areas of tiny paper loss along the folds that were on the outside when the poster was fully folded. There are some creases, smudges, and tiny tears on some folds, and some tiny paper loss at some crossfolds. There are pinholes and paper loss around the edges. Learn More about condition grades
