An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More)

the late 1940s (likely 1948) Realart double-bill release ("The Phantom Monster Show!"; "Good pictures like good books never grow old") of Son of Frankenstein, the classic 1939 Rowland V. Lee Universal monster horror thriller ("Mysterious! Weird! Horrifying!"; "The greatest fear figures in screen history... all in Universal's NEW cavalcade of horror!"; the third Universal "Frankenstein" movie) starring Basil Rathbone (in the title role as the original Dr. Frankenstein's son), Boris Karloff ( in the title role as the Frankenstein monster), Bela Lugosi (as Ygor), Lionel Atwill, Josephine Hutchinson, and Donnie Dunagan (as Peter von Frankenstein) AND The Bride of Frankenstein, the classic 1935 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The Monster Demands a Mate!"; "The monster thriller"; "Who will be The Bride of Frankenstein. Who will dare?"; the second of the Universal Frankenstein movies, and the only example I am aware of where a sequel is clearly superior to the original movie!; this is James Whale's masterpiece, and almost everyone agrees it is among the finest movies ever made, regardless of genre) starring Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Colin Clive (as Dr. Henry Frankenstein), Valerie Hobson (as the bride of Dr. Frankenstein), Elsa Lanchester (in the title role as the bride of the Frankenstein monster, and also as Mary Shelley!), Una O'Connor, Ernest Thesiger (as Dr. Pretorius), E.E. Clive, O.P. Heggie, John Carradine, Dwight Frye (as Karl), and Gavin Gordon

Condition: good to very good. Just about all of the cards I have seen from this double bill have had snipes over one of the two titles, because the cards were used for a showing of only one of the two movies, and this title card is no exception. The theater that used this card blacked in the face to the left of the stars' names for "Son of Frankenstein" (it said "HORROR HIT NO. 1" within the face), and they also glued paper snipes over the credits and the title. Finally, they blacked out the "NO. 2" under the words "HORROR HIT" in the arrow above "The Bride of Frankenstein", and then used the card solely for a showing of "The Bride of Frankenstein". The card also had pinholes, smudges, creases, and tiny tears in the blank borders. A restorer removed the paper snipes from the "Son of Frankenstein" title and credits, and did touch up in that yellow background area. They did not touch the blacked in face or the arrow at right, likely because the marker used has bonded with the card, but a talented restorer could repaint over those areas with the correct writing, if the new owner of the card wanted. The restorer also painted over all of the white blank border areas, to "even them out". There is slight touch up in the yellow background areas at the right of the card and in the top and bottom yellow background areas, but there really is next-to-no restoration in any of the image areas. The areas described above were well restored, and when looking at the card, you would likely only notice the border paint restoration, and that of course will not show when the card is framed. The card displays really well, but please do not bid on this card unless you have carefully read the above, and understand exactly what restoration this card has had!
