An Original Vintage Folded Special Poster (measures 18 1/4" x 24" [46 x 61 cm]) (Learn More)

Grand Popular Entertainment, the circa 1896 stock poster ("Don't fail... to take advantage of this opportunity. Bring children and friends..."; "Consisting of life-size motion pictures projected upon a large screen by means of that most wonderful of all modern inventions."; "The Edison Moving Picture Machine"; "The views will consist of a fine selection of subjects of popular interest and will be fully explained in an interesting lecture"), advertising Edison Company movie shows and featuring images of Thomas Edison's Kinetoscope! Obviously, this poster is from the birth of moving pictures, and since it refers to both "life-size motion pictures" and "the Edison Moving Picture Machine", we would think this surely is advertising actual movies, as opposed to magic lantern exhibitions of slides (although there is a separate "panoramic exhibition of high grade Magic Lantern views" advertised in the bottom left of the poster as well). This poster is wonderfully historic and seems like it should be in a museum! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: good. There are tears and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster, but fortunately, they have very slight effect on the printing or images. The poster was folded across the middle at one time. There are two pieces of clear tape in the lower left border, but otherwise, the poster has had no restoration. It would be simple for any talented restorer to linenback this poster and it will require little paint restoration.
