A 1955 Re-Release Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Invaders From Mars, the classic 1953 William Cameron Menzies (who also did the production design) science fiction (sci-fi) alien thriller ("From Out of Space.... Came hordes of green monsters!!"; "The Martians are coming!"; "Photographed in Color") starring Helena Carter, Arthur Franz, Jimmy Hunt, Leif Erickson, Hillary Brooke, Morris Ankrum, Max Wagner, Bill Phipps, Milburn Stone, and Janine Perreau

Important Added Info: Note that this is the 1955 re-release one-sheet for this classic sci-fi movie. It looks very similar to the original release poster (see below for the differences), and is often mistakenly sold as original (to complicate matters, this re-release has the original 1953 NSS number in the bottom right corner, but has a 1955 date in the bottom left corner, but that wrong NSS number increases the chances of it being mistakenly sold as an original). There are those who claim that this poster is a "1953 second printing", but that makes no sense, because if they were reprinting the poster in 1953, there would be absolutely no reason to change the copyright date to 1955 (two years in the future!), while there would be every reason to change the copyright date if it was printed in 1955 (if you think about it, the only reason to change the date would be if the "mistake" poster was printed FIRST, and then it was "corrected", and nobody is arguing for that!). People who try to defend the "second printing" theory say that the movie was not re-released in 1955, but certainly, it is extremely likely the movie was still playing in Saturday matinees (or on double bills) in 1955, so there would still be a need for posters at that time. Recently, we uncovered proof that there WAS a 1955 re-release! We were consigned a still that is copyrighted 1955, and it says "National Pictures Corporation", and it still has "Edward Alperson Presents", which would indicate that he purchased the rights to the movie from 20th Century-Fox, and redistributed it himself in 1955. Note that there are a few subtle differences between the two posters (the biggest one is that the "EDWARD L. ALPERSON" at the top of the poster is in yellow on the 1953 release, but is in white on the 1955 release), but just about every collector agrees that both are wonderful, and the 1955 re-release often sells for close to the price of the 1953 first release!

Note that all but 28 of the folded one-sheets in this Part I of eMoviePoster.com's December Major Auction were consigned to us by legendary French dealer/collector Dominique Besson.

Dominique Besson started collecting movie posters in 1981, and became a dealer in French and European posters in 1994, and has remained as a top dealer ever since!

But in addition, 30 years ago, Dominique began collecting U.S. one-sheets, first those with Saul Bass art, and then adding Alfred Hitchcock posters, then Humphrey Bogart, and he finally ended up collecting in an amazing total of 47 different categories, purchasing the posters from all over the world!

Now the time has come to sell this wonderful collection, and Dominique has chosen eMoviePoster.com to do so, through our auctions!

As noted above, all but 28 of the folded one-sheets in this Part I come from this more remarkable collection (the 28 that do not were consigned to us by other collectors, and are clearly marked).

This is not all of the Dominique Besson collection we are auctioning. In addition, there are approximately 200 more folded one-sheets that will be in Part IV of this special auction (ones from the 1970s to present), and there are approximately 100 unfolded one-sheets that will be in Part III (including many great ones).

This is a very rare opportunity to purchase folded one-sheets (all of which have had no professional restoration) from one of the greatest one-sheet collections assembled!

Note that this one-sheet is from the category that Dominique Besson collected on that he labeled "Fantastic '50s to '60s" (1950s to 1960s horror/sci-fi).

Condition: good to very good. There are some small tears of varying lengths along parts of the upper and lower horizontal folds and there are a few tiny areas of paper loss along parts of the upper horizontal fold (mostly near the crossfold).
