An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More)

Possessed, the 1931 Clarence Brown romantic love triangle politics melodrama ("From the play 'The Mirage' by Edgar Selwyn"; about a poor girl who goes to New York City and becomes a gold digger, and she lands a successful divorce attorney; but after a few years, she realizes she loves him, but he can't marry her because he wants to run for governor, and if his relationship with her came out, he might be ruined politically; an ex-boyfriend spreads gossip about her, and at a rally for the lawyer, people start demanding to know who his girlfriend used to be, but she stands up and says what a great guy he is and then leaves in tears, but he chases her and says he'd rather have her than be governor!) starring Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Skeets Gallagher, Wallace Ford, Frank Conroy, and Marjorie White

Important Added Info: Note that first release 1931 movie paper from this Clark Gable/Joan Crawford movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single poster from this movie until we received this window card (and only a single lobby card)! Also note that the card measures very slightly under 14" x 22" (an extremely tiny amount in each direction!) and has no left, right, or bottom blank borders, but it has NOT been trimmed (this was done at a time when MGM was experimenting with having as few borders as possible). Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards.

What IS paperbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the window card had darkened and it had some smudges, scuffs, and stains scattered throughout, with tiny paper loss in the bottom left corner, and some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss around the edges, with a 5" crease in the left border, entering Gable's ear and hair, and a couple of tiny bits of paper loss on that crease, and a few other creases and tiny bits of paper loss scattered in the image, including in Gable and Crawford's foreheads and a few other areas in their faces. It had a 4" tear in the top blank area. Overall, the window card was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was backed onto a somewhat lightweight backing (but it can't be rolled) and restoration was performed to the image area. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Obviously, one would prefer to find a better condition example of this window card, but it is INCREDIBLY rare (we have never seen another), as are ANY posters from this movie, and in spite of its defects, this card will still display well on the new owner's wall.
