An Original Vintage 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm] Television Still (Learn More)

The Star Wars Holiday Special, the 1978 Steve Binder made-for-TV science fiction (sci-fi) adventure family musical ("'May this holiday always be a day of joy, in which we reaffirm our courage, our dedication, and more than all else, our love for each other... this is the promise of the Tree of Life'") starring Mark Hamill (as Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (as Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (as Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (as C-3PO), Peter Mayhew (as Chewbacca), Kenny Baker (as R2-D2), James Earl Jones (as the voice of Darth Vader), Bea Arthur (as a singing Mos Eisley bartender), Art Carney (as a repairman), Jefferson Starship, and Harvey Korman. Note that this TV special (made at the height of Star Wars mania) takes place on the planet of the Wookies, where Chewbacca is visiting his son "Lumpy", his 400 year-old father "Itchy", and his wife "Malla", where they are celebrating "Life Day", the most important holiday on the Wookie calendar. Not surprisingly, this wacky addition to the Star Wars pantheon has become infamous since it first aired. We don't know that any posters of any sort were ever made for it, but we know that a presskit was made for it, which contained some TV stills, and a special foil promo (which we have seen described as a "mini mylar poster/flyer"), and that presskit (or any of the contents) might be the only first release items any Star Wars completionist could ever get from this for their collection! Rumor has it that George Lucas tried (and failed) to buy up all master copies to make sure it was never broadcast again!

Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare promotional still for this obscure and infamous Star Wars special (see above)! We are auctioning 11 different single stills from this TV special in 11 separate auctions, and with the exception of one of the stills (the super close-up of Chewbacca) we have never auctioned ANY other of them before. Note also that each of these stills has a CBS TV printed snipe wrapped over the front and back that gives much information about the show and the individual still (see our image). Note finally that this still measures 7" x 9 1/4" [18 x 23 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Note finally that this was printed on Kodak paper, but this is because TV stills were quite commonly printed on Kodak paper (no doubt they needed far fewer stills for TV shows than they did for movies, so it just made financial sense to have Kodak copies made rather than printing large numbers of them). We are 100% certain it is an original TV still and not a later copy.

This auction is one of 520 auctions in eMoviePoster.com's special "all-Star Wars" auction! Where did this remarkable selection come from? It all started when we were contacted by a VERY long time collector of Star Wars posters, who told us he wanted to sell his entire collector, and we started with his 296 (which included many of the most rare and desirable ones) and we then asked our other 2,500+ consignors if they had any other Star Wars posters (or related items) that we did not already have, and the result is this amazing collection of 520 auctions, and every item will have a new owner once the auctions end, because all truly have no reserve. If one tried to duplicate this collection, it would surely take MANY years to do so!

Condition: good. The rare still has some uneven discoloration caused by snipe glue at lower center (see our image).
