A Vintage Paperback Book (measures 4 1/4" x 6 1/2" [11 x 17 cm]; 315 pages) (Learn More) Here Is Your War, the 1943 Ernie Pyle ("America's favorite correspondent") nonfiction illustrated World War II (WWII) book detailing the conditions of America's G.I.s throughout Europe and Africa. Of course, Ernie Pyle's World War II exploits as a journalist were the basis of Ernie Pyle's Story of G.I. Joe, the classic 1945 William A. Wellman World War II (WWII) military biography (about war correspondent Ernie Pyle; note that this movie was also the inspiration for one of the greatest lines of action figures ever, G.I. Joe!) starring Burgess Meredith ("as Ernie Pyle"), Robert Mitchum (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Freddie Steele, Wally Cassell, Jimmy Lloyd, John R. Reilly, Dorothy Coonan, and Yolanda Lacca. Note that Mitchum was barely mentioned (and not pictured) on any of the original advertising for this movie. A few years later, in 1949, when it was re-released (after Mitchum had become a huge star), it was promoted as a Robert Mitchum starring movie, and Mitchum's image took the place of Meredith's on the posters!
