BURGESS MEREDITH

Burgess Meredith was born in 1907. He was a stage actor who made many movies in the late 1930s and early 1940s, and his most memorable of these was as George in Of Mice and Men, and as Ernie Pyle in The Story of G.I. Joe. He was caught up in the McCarthy blacklist, and turned to television, where he had four very memorable appearances on "The Twilight Zone", and later appeared as The Penguin on the 1960s "Batman" TV show. Some of his other movies include: Rocky (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film, as Mickey, Rocky's long suffering trainer), Grumpy Old Men, Clash of the Titans, and Day Of The Locust (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film). He passed away in 1997 at the age of 89.
