An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures approximately 3" x 4") (Learn More) So Red The Rose, the 1935 King Vidor historical Civil War romantic melodrama ("The flower of Southern chivalry... dewed with the shining glory of a woman's tears"; "From Stark Young's novel") starring Margaret Sullavan, Walter Connolly, Randolph Scott, Elizabeth Patterson, Janet Beecher, Robert Cummings (in his first real movie after a single uncredited role two years earlier!), Dickie Moore, Clarence Muse, and Charles Starrett. Note that this film performed poorly at the box office, which perpetuated the myth that Civil War films were box office poison (a myth shattered by Gone With The Wind). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: The slide does not have a cardboard holder, but rather there is black tape around all four edges (front and back), typical of older glass slides. When we auction slides that have a cardboard holder, we provide a separate image of how the cardboard holder looks, but when we auction slides with the black tape (like this one) we only provide the scan of the glass slide image, because that really is about all there is to see. Condition: fair to good. There is a crack in the back pane of glass that runs through Sullavan's forehead and the background on either side. Someone put a piece of tape in the top left corner of the border, but the slide is not in danger of further cracking or coming apart. The theater that used this slide wrote the days the movie was playing in the play dates section at the bottom of the glass. Learn More about condition grades
