An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian Locandina Movie Poster (measures 13 1/2" x 23 3/4") (Learn More) Raintree County, the 1957 Edward Dmytryk Civil War romantic love triangle melodrama ("MGM presents in MGM Camera 65 'Window of the World' 'Raintree County' In the great tradition of Civil War romance"; "Based on the Novel by Ross Lockridge Jr."; about a man trapped in a loveless marriage, and he gets reacquainted with his childhood sweetheart, set against the backdrop of the Civil War) starring Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Eva Marie Saint, Nigel Patrick, Lee Marvin, Rod Taylor, Agnes Moorehead, Walter Abel, Jarma Lewis, and Tom Drake. Note that during filming, Montgomery Clift was in a horrific car accident after leaving Elizabeth Taylor's house one evening (she and Rock Hudson reportedly pulled him from the wreck, and Taylor saved him from choking on his own teeth!). Sadly, despite several surgeries to his face, Clift's injuries were still visible, and his health deteriorated after the crash. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: G. Di Stefano Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 13 1/2" x 23 3/4". Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. It appears the poster was likely trimmed on the top and bottom blank borders, but we can't say how much that would have been, because we do not have another poster to compare it to, but it is likely that there was a large blank top, so likely around 2" were trimmed from the top and around 1" from the bottom, but only blank white paper was affected (the writing at the bottom was not trimmed at all). The poster had fine surface paper loss on the foldlines and some tears and scuffs on the foldline that runs just above the title. There are some scuffs scattered in the image, most notably one in the bottom left of Taylor's hair, and several in the solid black background. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer linenbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
