Date Sold 1/15/2015 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 8 Original 1923 Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Sappho (released in the U.S. in 1923 as "Mad Love"), the 1921 Dimitri Buchowetzki German/U.S. silent romantic love triangle melodrama ("The famous beauty of a thousand passions"; "The daring drama of a fascinating flirt"; a wild story of a woman who literally drives her boyfriend insane, and when his brother comes to find the woman who ruined him, he does not realize who she is, and she seduces him as well; eventually, he discovers the truth, and his brother escapes from the asylum and strangles her!) starring Pola Negri (in the title role as Dame Sappho), Alfred Abel, Xenia Desni, Ellinor Gynt, and Werner Krauss NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: good. Each card has large punch holes in the left edge and some smudges scattered in various areas. Most cards have a one or a few pinholes in the image. The card pictured at lower right in our first image has chalk-like writing at right over the image of the star. The card pictured at upper left in our second image has a few white drip paint stains scattered in various areas. The card pictured below it has several scratches and white drip paint stains.
