An Original Vintage Theatrical Uruguayan Movie Herald (measures 5" x 7 3/4" [13 x 20 cm]; 1 page) (Learn More) Puttin' On the Ritz, the 1930 Edward Sloman New York City romantic musical ("The Idol of Broadway in a tuneful song & dance extravaganza"; "Dynamic! Vimful! Glorious!"; "The spectacular talking singing dancing sensation"; "Music and Lyrics by Irving Berlin"; about a vaudeville performer who becomes very successful and turns his back on his old friends; it is really just a framing device to showcase the many wonderful songs) starring Harry Richman ("The Idol of Broadway former star of 'George White's Scandals'"), Joan Bennett, James Gleason, Aileen Pringle, and Lilyan Tashman. Note that this movie introduced the classic title song by Irving Berlin, and it is one of the most recognizable songs ever, even in the present day! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the artwork on this herald is unsigned, but we think it is quite likely it is the work of Hap Hadley (he worked for United Artists at this exact time, and we have seen another Uruguayan herald from the same time with similar art that IS signed by Hap Hadley). Please note that Uruguayan heralds, like Spanish heralds, were printed in large quantities, and then sent to individual theaters in Uruguay, and they would have the backs of them overprinted or stamped with their theater name and specific play dates. But because a movie might play in Uruguay for a period of a year or two (traveling from theater to theater), there is no guarantee that the date overprinted on the back of the herald is the same as the date that the herald was first printed (and the date that the movie first played in Uruguay). We strongly suspect that most movies did not reach Uruguay until a year or two after their first release in other countries, but we can't say for certain. Therefore, we don't list the date overprinted on the back of a herald as the date of the herald (or the date of the movie's first release in Uruguay) unless we know from some other source that the later year was when the movie first played in Uruguay. If it is important to you that the date on the herald is the same date as when the movie first played in its country of origin, then please look at our image of the back of this herald to see if there is a different date printed on it.
