An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 21 5/8" x 28" [55 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Don't Bother to Knock, the 1952 Roy Baker psychological thriller ("You've never met her type before... ...a wicked sensation as the lonely girl in Room 809!"; "Based on a novel by Charlotte Armstrong"; about a mentally unstable beautiful woman, who has a major breakdown in a hotel; this movie showed that Marilyn had real acting ability, and it seems likely that she might have had a long, successful career in her later years, had she lived) starring Richard Widmark, Marilyn Monroe, Anne Bancroft (in her first movie role!), Donna Corcoran, Jeanne Cagney, Lurene Tuttle, Elisha Cook Jr., Jim Backus, Verna Felton, Willis B. Bouchey, and Don Beddoe NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the half-sheet from this movie is far more rare than the one-sheet (we have only previously auctioned two half-sheets in all our years of auctioning). The half-sheet has the same classic sexy image of Marilyn Monroe from the one-sheet, and it also has five inset images of her at the bottom of the poster! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 21 5/8" x 28" [55 x 71 cm]. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Approximately 3/8" was neatly trimmed from the bottom blank border of the poster (perhaps to fit a frame). The poster had an extra horizontal fold slightly above the regular horizontal fold, with some creases and scuffs on both folds. It had pinholes around the edges, with some tears and tiny paper loss in the right border, and a 4" uneven tear in the bottom center of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects, and the restorer did not replace the slight missing paper in the bottom blank border. Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
