Artist: Kazuhiko Sano Important Added Info: Note that this poster has the title in white letters. Almost all known examples of this poster have the title in silver letters. It had been suggested that this was a "rejected" version (that someone saw the initial version with white letters and decided it would be better with silver letters and that they then destroyed almost all of the white letter versions and only distributed the silver letter versions, which would account for the extreme rarity of this poster). This "white title" style exists in two versions. One measures 27" x 41" and looks just like the "silver letter" version. The other is a printer's test poster (often referred to as a "printer's proof"), which has an extra 1" at left with color bars. Having that extra area makes it much more certain that this never made it past the proof stage. Most of the printer's test posters are blank on the back. However, sometimes when printer's test posters would be printed, they would print them on the back of other test posters (since they would never be distributed to theaters, and only were shown to people at the printer and at the studio). We have been consigned two printer's test posters from Return of the Jedi, and both have other posters on the back, and we are auctioning them now, in two separate auctions. THIS one is printed on the back of a poster for a 1983 re-release of the movie "Hercules in New York" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger (re-titled just "Hercules" for the re-release) and it is the ONLY white title style printer's test we have ever auctioned that has the extra 1" at left (we once auctioned a Return of the Jedi white title style with an "Android" poster on the back, but that one was trimmed to 27" x 41", so while it seems extremely likely that it too was a printer's test, we can't say for certain). The other printer's test poster we are currently auctioning has the regular silver letter title, and it has been printed on the back of a poster with three small versions of three larger sized Return of the Jedi posters! Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has a slightly diagonal partial crease running from the middle of the left border through the center of the image and into the background by Ford's right shoulder, but it does not affect any of the stars' faces.
