An Original Vintage Theatrical 7 1/2" x 9 3/4" [19 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

All-Star Production of Patriotic Episodes for the Second Liberty Loan, the 1917 Marshall Neilan silent cowboy western melodrama short starring Douglas Fairbanks Sr., Mary Pickford (this was the first film that Fairbanks and Pickford starred in together), William S. Hart, Julian Eltinge (most famous of all the impersonators of women), Theodore Roberts, and other top stars. Note that in a rare case of patriotism, the major studios agreed to lend their top stars for the filming of a short subject encouraging U.S. citizens to buy war bonds as the U.S. entered World War I! The above stars plus others (advertised as "the most expensive cast ever seen in a photoplay") gathered together for a brief three hours, and shot this short film at a cost of $15,000! Note that Julian Eltinge is mostly forgotten in today's world, but his inclusion in this short shows just how major of a star he was in 1917, that he was included in this movie with the greatest silent stars (and naturally, he appeared in female clothing!). Prior to 2024, we had never seen any movie advertising of any kind from this unusual short, but in January 2024, we were consigned an 8x10 still showing the top stars with director Neilan, and fortunately, someone wrote descriptive information on the back in pencil. If anyone knows more about this short, or has seen any other advertising, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info: Note that this still is the one referred to in the description above and is the only paper item we have ever auctioned from this movie! Also note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 7 1/2" x 9 3/4" [19 x 25 cm].

Condition: good to very good. The still was trimmed to 7 1/2" x 9 3/4" (we don't know what it originally measured) and there is a brown stain in the lower left.
