An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 17 1/2" [28 x 44 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Gildersleeve's Ghost, the 1944 Gordon Douglas science fiction (sci-fi) fantasy horror comedy ("Weird... Wild-Eyed... and What Fun"; "A haunted house-ful of goofy, ghostly guffaws with Gildy in the mad-cap middle!"; "You'll SCREAM with laughter!"; "Everything from spooks to nuts! As Gildy and a giant gorilla tussle over a buxom blonde who vanishes..just like that!"; "EERIE HILARITY -- when a pair of spooks and a giant gorilla try to pal up with Throcky!"; "- with the Prince of Pomposity at his befuddled best... As he pits his wits against a giant gorilla, a vanishing Venus and a pair of goofy spooks!"; based on the hit radio show, "The Great Gildersleeve") starring Harold Peary (in the title role as Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, and also as the ghosts of two of his ancestors!), Marion Martin, Richard LeGrand, Amelita Ward, Freddie Mercer, Margie Stewart, Lillian Randolph, Nick Stewart, and Charles Gemora (as the gorilla!). Note that starting in 1929 and continuing into the 1940s, Charles Gemora played gorillas in many movies, likely because he owned a gorilla suit, and could do a somewhat convincing job portraying a gorilla. Just a few years later, Ray 'Crash' Corrigan would also start playing gorillas, and no doubt they competed for roles in every movie requiring a gorilla! Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good to very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It is folded across the middle. Learn More about condition grades
