An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Six-Sheet Movie Poster (6sh; measures 81" x 81" [206 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) The Lawless Frontier, the 1934 Robert N. Bradbury cowboy western starring John Wayne, Sheila Terry, Jack Rockwell, George 'Gabby' Hayes, Jay Wisley (billed as "Buffalo Bill Jr."), Yakima Canutt, and Gordon De Main NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster looks like it could be a stock poster, but this is the original one-sheet that Lone Star created for this John Wayne western in 1934, with an artwork image of three cowboys out on the desert under a blazing sun (likely none of them are recognizably John Wayne because he was not a really major star at this time, although they certainly put his name in huge letters above the title!). After this movie was released in 1934, it was re-released at some point in the next couple of years by Lone Star, along with the other Lone Star John Wayne westerns, and there are different posters for those re-releases, but the poster offered here is the very rare first release six-sheet from this movie from 1934 (we have never auctioned it before). The litho number on the poster confirms that it is from 1934 (we compared it to other litho numbers in our massive database of such numbers). Also note that this six-sheet was printed in 4 sections designed to overlap. Also note that the theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). Condition: fair to good. The theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). At some later time, but likely not much later at all (perhaps weeks or months later), somebody saw that the poster was tattered and they reinforced it by gluing lots of sheets of typing paper and pages taken out of books to the back of the poster everywhere it could use reinforcement (which was a substantial portion of the back of the poster). The poster has much wear on the folds and around the edges and many creases, ripples, and light stains throughout, caused by the glue on the back. Certainly, this historic and incredibly rare poster should be immediately given to a top restorer. Once they remove the paper from the back and properly back it, the poster will look fantastic, and it likely won't require lots of paint restoration. But certainly bear in mind the poster's defects and the cost of restoration before placing a bid on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
