An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the classic 1939 Alfred L. Werker detective mystery crime thriller sequel ("Based on the play 'Sherlock Holmes' by William Gillette with the permission of the executors of the late Sir Arthur Conan Doyle") starring Basil Rathbone (in the title role as Sherlock Holmes), Nigel Bruce (as Dr. Watson), Ida Lupino, Alan Marshal, Terry Kilburn, George Regas, Henry Stephenson, and E.E. Clive. Note that this is the second Basil Rathbone & Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes movie, and it was released by 20th Century Fox, as was their first film, "The Hound of the Baskervilles". All subsequent Rathbone & Bruce Sherlock Holmes movies were released by Universal!

Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: good to very good. The card was "starch backed", which means that it was moistened with a special starch solution, attached to a backing, allowed to dry, and then the card had touch up while it was backed, and afterward, the backing was removed. This particular card had pinholes, smudges, and a few tiny tears around the edges (including a pinhole in Rathbone's forehead), with paper loss in the top right blank corner. The card was starch backed by a talented professional and expert restoration was performed to the above defects. The card displays well, and it still completely looks and feels like an unrestored lobby card. At some point after it was restored, it was roughly handled, which resulted in a faint partial horizontal crease in the middle left of the card, running through Bruce's suit and into Lupino's shoulder. It also acquired a small tear in the right blank border. While I think most collectors would be happy to display this great card as it is, any restorer could perform slight additional restoration to the card without re-backing it.
