Date Sold 9/6/2015Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical English Movie Pressbook (English pb; measures 10" x 14 1/2" [25 x 37 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) The Mark of the Vampire, the 1935 Tod Browning horror thriller ("You will not dare believe... what your eyes see!"; "These two strange symbols meant 'marked for death'!"; "Important! Do not divulge the secret of 'Mark of the Vampire' to your friends... let them by mystified... and thrilled!"; based on the story 'The Hypnotist' by Tod Browning; about a father and daughter vampire team in an unnamed European country, and naturally, wherever they go, people are found dead) starring Lionel Barrymore, Elizabeth Allan, Bela Lugos (as Count Mora)i, Lionel Atwill, Jean Hersholt, Carroll Borland (as Luna, a female vampire; Borland was a huge Lugosi fan who wrote a script intended for him and appeared in this movie with him, which was only one of six movies she appeared in!), Holmes Herbert, and James Bradbury Jr. Note that director Tod Browning had incredible success with Dracula in 1931, but Freaks in 1933 was a major failure (at the time), and he was trying to regain his former glory with this movie, which was very loosely based on another major success, London After Midnight, which starred Lon Chaney Sr.! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1938 movie posters from this early Town Browning horror movie are incredibly rare. We have only auctioned a single window card from this movie and some stills, in all the years we have been auctioning. This English pressbook shows many of the English posters on the back (but they look like they are the same as the U.S. posters), and of course, almost none of those posters are known to exist! Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this English pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this English pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. All the pages have come loose and there are yellowed pieces of tape and stains down the spine of each page. The horizontal fold was separating at the right end on all pages, and there was once tape put over those areas, but the tape is gone and there are now yellow stains on those areas. There are some dot stains, faint smudges, and tiny tears around the edges of each page. Learn More about condition grades
